Mumbai to Delhi is the busiest FTL and PTL freight lane in India — approximately 1,420 km via the NH-48 corridor, with an estimated 15,000+ trucks moving on it every single day. Rates change with diesel, GST, festival demand and toll revisions. This is what the market looks like as of August 2026, with concrete numbers you can use to negotiate.
The three ways Mumbai → Delhi freight is priced
Every quote you receive falls into one of three pricing models: FTL (per truck), PTL (per kilogram), or lane-rate (per kg, fixed for the lane). Understanding which one you're getting is half the negotiation.
Model 1 — FTL (Full Truck Load) per-truck pricing
You book the entire vehicle. Typical Mumbai → Delhi FTL rates in Aug 2026:
- 14-ft truck (7-9 tonne): ₹58,000 – ₹72,000
- 20-ft container: ₹68,000 – ₹85,000
- 32-ft trailer / SXL (16-25 tonne): ₹85,000 – ₹1,20,000
- 40-ft container: ₹1,10,000 – ₹1,45,000
Add 18% GST on top. Rates include fuel surcharge and driver but exclude loading, unloading and detention. Best for loads over 5 tonnes or high-value / sensitive cargo where you don't want your goods to share space.
Model 2 — PTL (Part Truck Load) per-kg pricing
You pay for the weight and volume you occupy. Market rates: ₹9 – ₹12 per kg Mumbai → Delhi, with a ₹1,500 – ₹2,500 minimum per consignment. Transit typically 3-5 days because the truck consolidates loads from multiple shippers.
Best for loads under 2 tonnes and where transit time is flexible.
Model 3 — Lane rate (all-inclusive per-kg)
This is what FAST INDIA TRANSPORT publishes for its 10 core lanes. On Mumbai → Delhi our rate is ₹10 per kg — fuel, driver, standard loading and toll are already built in. You add GST 18%.
For a 3-tonne consignment (3,000 kg) that's ₹30,000 + ₹5,400 GST = ₹35,400. Compare that to a 20-ft container FTL at ~₹75,000 all-in — the lane rate is roughly half, because you're sharing a scheduled truck without the transit-time penalty of open-market PTL.
Why is Delhi → Mumbai cheaper?
Our return-leg rate is ₹7/kg, not ₹10. Reason: Mumbai imports far more than it exports, so Delhi → Mumbai trucks often run under-utilised southbound. We pass that discount on. Any transporter charging you the same rate both ways is either paying more per truck than needed, or pocketing the arbitrage.

What drives the rate up in 2026?
- Diesel: Every ₹1 change in Mumbai diesel price moves lane rates by ~1.5%.
- Toll: The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway sections have added ~₹4,500 in tolls per trip since 2023.
- ODC / overweight: Anything over the vehicle's rated capacity triggers a per-tonne overweight surcharge — we charge ₹850/T extra.
- Festival & harvest seasons: Diwali and rabi harvest create 15-20% demand spikes; rates rise 10-15% for 2-3 weeks.
Three ways to reduce your Mumbai → Delhi freight
- Consolidate. Two 2-tonne consignments in a month cost more than one 4-tonne monthly. Plan a monthly cycle if you can.
- Use scheduled lanes. Booking a scheduled slot on our weekly Mumbai → Delhi run is 20-30% cheaper than a same-day open-market truck.
- Choose the return-leg lane. If your business also imports into Mumbai, Delhi → Mumbai at ₹7/kg is the cheapest reliable freight in India for that direction.
